Big changes are coming to High River's 4 Avenue when it comes to parking.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says it's been designed differently from other roads in the downtown core.

"Third and Fourth are different, so 4 Avenue is a people-centred street, it's all built of pavers, the only reason we're even allowing traffic down there is because of the doctor's office and the Health Unit," he says.

Snodgrass says if people park only where they're supposed to there is room for vehicles to pass each other.
"The problem with it right now is because of the little curves it it, it feels as though you're on a parking spot, but you're actually on the street,' Snodgrass says. "In front of Evelyn's and those shops along there is the street, so everyone's complaining that 'oh the streets too narrow, well, no it's not."

In the next while signs will be going up indicating where drivers cannot park and violators will be ticketed.

The mayor says there won't be any warnings handed out or education campaign, just the signs spelling out where to park.
