Heaven Can Wait Animal Rescue Foundation has started 2016 off on a high note.

The group is seeing a steady amount of adoptions.

Kim Hessel, founder and president, says typically the new year is a busy time for them.

"Usually the beginning of the year does pick up for us for adoptions and we can definitely confirm that is happening. February we saw quite a few adoptions and we have five dog adoptions in the works right now which is beautiful. I would say overall we've started really positively for the new year."

She adds the need never stops as for every animal they find a home for there's more coming through the rescue's doors.

Hessel says outside of adoptions they have a lot on the go.

"Our charitable status paperwork is almost ready to go and board development is just about completed which is great. There's a lot of exciting plans for us this year and it just feels like so many doors have opened and now it's just a matter of making sure we do things properly and move it forward."

A Go Fund Me page was started in the late fall to help the group out of a difficult financial situation but Hessel says thanks to the community's kindness they're now stable.
