The year-end party for Harley Davidson in Calgary had a unique twist, adding in a fundraiser for an Okotoks family who suffered a great tragedy this past August.

Darren Bishop, one of many event coordinators, says after an accident left an Okotoks mother devastated with four young children, they had to find a way to help.

"Eric was a good friend of mine, and many, and he was on a bike trip with us and a tragic accident occurred where he lost his life. So we, as a group, stepped up and felt that the family needed some support," he said.

Owner of Calgary Harley Davidson, Gary Sartario, donated a motorcycle for raffle at the year-end event, in addition to donating all the proceeds from the gathering to the Olson family.

The event, which took place on September 15th, raised approximately $115,000. The Olson family have four girls, one three and a half years old, along with seven month old triplets.

The family had only been in Okotoks for a few weeks before the accident.

Bishop says everyone pulled together in a short time to help the family cope with the tragedy.

"With the footprint Eric had, and all his friends, we all contributed and ended up selling a lot of tickets in a very short period of time, the end result being raising $115,000 to go towards the family," he said.

The family has since relocated to Saskatchewan, to be close to family for support in their time of need.
