Okotoks Fire Services were busy last week with a few calls that aren't as common in the month of November.

18 responses had them putting out fires that they may see in the spring or summer.

Okotoks Fire Chief Ken Thevenot

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says there were a couple of grass fire calls in this week's Fire Report.

"We had three alarm system activations, we also attended a controlled burn without a permit, two fire calls, one gas leak, we did an odour investigation, six medical responses, two mutual aid responses and one small grass fire."

With the above normal temperatures for the past couple weeks on the plus side, Thevenot says the risk for grass fires is up.

"It's still really dry out there, the conditions are primed for grass fires. One of our mutual aid calls last week we attended a large grassfire northeast of Blackie. So conditions are there for grass fires."

He says it won't take much to start a grass fire this Remembrance Day Weekend.

"Please take caution when discarding smoking material when working around with material when working around machinery. Have extinguishers handy on the machinery so you can extinguish anything in a timely fashion."
