The Okotoks Fire Department are kicking off Fire Prevention Week today.

Fire Prevention week doesn't start till the weekend but the Fire Department is helping a local charity out by simply having breakfast.

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says a grand slam is waiting for you.

"We're starting over at Denny's who was so gracious enough to offer us up to come over, they're having a great celebration on their fifth anniversary but they're celebrating with a $1.99 grand slam breakfast," he says.

The breakfast will run from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

Thevenot says they're donating the money raised to a cause that is close to the department's heart.

"Everyone of those breakfasts a dollar will go toward the Okotoks Fire Department which in turn we are donating to the Foothills Country Hospice so we hope everyone will come out and have something to eat celebrate with Denny's and the fire department."

He says that there will also be fire equipment on display to check out.

'We'll have some fire fighters there to answer any questions, we'll also have a prop there that you can practice with a fire extinguisher. We'll have a prop that has a fire extinguisher on it, it's an electronic system you can try in the back part of Denny's."
