The Okotoks Fire Department is trying to give the boot to breast cancer.

The Fill the Boot Campaign, which raises money for breast cancer awareness, was a hit at Wednesday night's Okotoks Dawgs game for Hometown Heroes Night.

Deputy Fire Chief Dwight Seymour says the fundraiser receives a great deal of support.

The Okotoks Dawgs Hometown Heroes night recognizes local first responders.

"It's awesome, we've done this for a number of years now," he says. "Every time we kick it off on the Hometown Heroes Night and the fans continue to impress us every night that we do this every year. It's just an awesome feeling to see the generosity and the response we get."

Seymour says they'll be out collecting again for those who either didn't get a chance to donate on Wednesday night or want to donate again.

"July 24 in the evening we're going to be at Costco and Canadian Tire as well as on Saturday July 25 at Costco and Canadian Tire again. The same thing, the Dawgs players come down on the Saturday and hangout with us for a bit, talk to the fans, and they try and see if anyone wants to donate to breast cancer, so the whole idea is to give the boot to breast cancer."

The Fill the Boot Campaign is also scheduled to make an appearance at the Dawgs game on July 26.
