The Girl Guides were back at it again improving the town one good deed at a time.

On Sunday around twenty Guides, Pathfinders and leaders took to the drains of Suntree and Tower Hill, participating in the Yellow Fish Road Project.

Girl Guides Area Commissioner Kelly Logan says the project is lead by Trout Unlimited.

"What they do is give groups stencils so they can paint yellow fish on all the drains in towns and cities around Canada. That indicates that you shouldn't put anything other than fresh water down them because obviously the drains go directly into the rivers and most of the rivers are our drinking water, so they want to keep the drains as clean as possible."

Logan says the initiative not only helps the community but also educates the girls.

"I think it opens their eyes to the environmental impacts that they do have. Like if they are gonna throw garbage about the streets then it's going to impact the world around them...and that itself is huge to the girls... and then it's them that brings it back to their parents and tells them hey that's not good for the environment. So it teaches the girls and it helps the community in the long run."

The girls do get rewarded for their volunteer work within the community and also participate in: highway and river clean up, Inn from the Cold shelter and the Food Bank.

In just a couple hours the group painted all 84 drains in the area.
