There are some spooky stories connected to some of the heritage buildings in Okotoks.

And an event this weekend is aimed at sharing those stories, along with an appreciation for our town's history.

Kathy Coutts, museum specialist and member of the Okotoks and District Historical Society, says the upcoming ghost tours will explore some of the ghost stories from Okotoks' history in a fun way.

"The tours are a light-hearted look at some dark areas of our town's history," Coutts explains. "We talk about some ghosts and some murders that happened many, many years ago, and suspicious deaths."

Coutts says the ghost tours seem to get better year after year, as new stories are uncovered and added to the route.

"Ghost tours seem to be becoming popular in a lot of places," she says. "One of the reasons that we decided to do a tour here in Okotoks is just to share history and a light-hearted look at history. We do have some interesting ghost stories in some of our buildings in the downtown core."

Coutts recommends dressing appropriately for the weather. Although the tour starts out in the attic of the Okotoks Museum and Archives, the remainder of the event will be outdoors.

The Okotoks ghost tours take place Friday, October 27, Saturday, October 28 and Sunday, October 29 with six time slots to choose from each of those days. Each tour runs for between 60 to 75 minutes.

Tickets for the event must be purchased in advance. The cost is $5 plus GST and tickets can be purchased at the Okotoks Art Gallery or by calling (403) 938-3204.
