The Town of Okotoks is bringing back an eco-friendly way to get rid of important documents.

Shred It is back where residents can bring papers to be shredded which will then get recycled at the Eco Centre.

Charne Crafford, conservation educator with the Town, says people can bring any documents they want.

"Any personal documents that you wouldn't feel comfortable throwing away, so any bank statements, letters that have your name and address on there, basically anything that's personal and confidential with your name on it."

Crafford says the event will also help highlight the services offered at the Eco Centre.

"Our new Eco Centre is a niche service so it does offer additional recycling separate from just paper, cardboard, and plastic," she says. "We also recycle K-cups, we have textile recycling now so we can take in clothing, and we can take in styrofoam as well so it's basically going to be to draw attention to the Eco Centre and how we can reduce and divert waste from the landfill."

The same day as Shred It the Town is also having the grand opening of the Environmental Education Centre where residents can enjoy breakfast, crafts, and tour the facility.

Shred It takes place June 10 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.
