With OPEC's new deal and the eventual carbon tax taking place in 2017, that means prices at the pumps won't be so jolly this holiday season.

Prices of gasoline in Okotoks can range anywhere from 81 to 90 cents a litre as of Friday afternoon.

Senior Petroleum Analyst with GasBuddy.com Dan McTeague says it would be a good idea to fill up before you see a drastic jump at your go to gas station.

"OPEC has come to an agreement and the agreement looks like it's going to become formalized at 1.2 million barrel decrease in production," he says. "That will actually do a little bit to get rid of the world surplus over time and that sent gasoline wholesale prices up about three, maybe four cents a litre."

By this week expect prices to be closer to a dollar a litre than the traditional 90 cent mark.

"So that really accounts that you're going to get an increase in the Foothills if that hasn't happened already it's costing most stations about 83 or 84 cents a litre to buy their gasoline. Most will want to get at for a period of time at a ten or eleven cent retail margin that should push that up to 95.9 cents a litre."

McTeague expects these prices to stay at that 95 cent average well into 2017.

"I think the low nineties is what we can expect going forward over the next several weeks. Of course on January 1 we have the carbon tax coming in that should add to another five cents permanently to a litre of gasoline if it makes anyone feel any better Ontario is doing pretty much the same thing."
