The Foothills Salvage and Recycling Society has outdone themselves once again.

On top of diverting recyclables from the landfill and providing the Foothills with all sorts of second hand goods the non for profit salvage centre has now donated $30,000 dollars to all food banks within the M.D.

The Okotoks, High River and Turner Valley food banks along with the Food For Thought program and the Okotoks Family Resource Centre all received the generous donation today, December 5, and Candice Dupre, FSRS general manager says even with tough economic times the community is to thank as they always step up to support.

"Ultimately the community support is why we are able to give so much back into the community. We obviously have huge amounts of people who shop and also who donate and I attribute that to the fact that we are able to donate this money back to the families in the community that need it."

Dupre says she and the FSRS board of directors share mutual feelings when it comes to giving back.

"I think it's quite unanimous that we all feel it feels pretty good giving back into the community and it makes our job worth while in every aspect of it. So it's a beautiful thing, it's a blessing for sure."

Not only was it a big day for the salvation centre though, it was also a big year as they were able to donate $180,000 to organizations within the foothills in 2016, $55,000 more than last year.
