An Okotoks mother has started a foundation in memory of her late son to help support the Alberta Children's Hospital.

Amber Robinson's 6-year-old son Max became sick with an aggressive form of E. coli June of last year and spent the remainder of his time at the hospital before the disease claimed his life on June 13, 2015.

She says she created the Max Robinson Foundation as a way to carry on Max's spirit.

"He was a healthy, intelligent, vibrant, energetic kiddo and we started the foundation in his memory because as every parent can understand to lose a child is the loss of so much including a future and lots of hopes and dreams so through the foundation we're hoping to create a legacy."

Robinson says it's important to give back to the hospital that gave so much to her family.

"We had exceptional care at the hospital. We found the facility and staff to be really family-oriented and supportive and really wonderful in the follow-ups and being part of the family care afterwards with the grief councillors and such. It's a facility that's funded so much by community support so any awareness that we can bring to that we feel is really important."

The Max Robinson Foundation has pledged to donate $125,000 to the Alberta Children's Hospital over the next four years and has also donated money to scholarships and the Okotoks Scouts.

The foundation held it's first fundraiser, a golf tournament at Crystal Ridge Golf Course in June, and raised $33,000.

Two fundraisers are planned for November including ticket proceeds being donated to the foundation from the musical production "If the Shoe Fits" in Airdrie on Nov. 5.
