Fortis Alberta is continuing to encourage residents to make energy efficient choices.

On Saturday, Fortis is teaming up with Home Hardware stores across the province to give out free LED light bulbs.

Nastasha Russell, corporate communications advisor for Fortis, says making the switch to led bulbs can help reduce bill costs.

"Every household is different depending on how many bulbs they're using, but what we do know is LED's are definitely more cost effective than an incandescent bulb so depending on how many bulbs we'd hope people would convert their entire household to LED's so they would see good savings at the end of the month and even more so at the end of the year."

According to Fortis, LED bulbs are 90% more efficient than incandescent bulbs and can last for over 20 years.

Russell says Home Hardware has been great to partner with.

"They've been amazing at helping us with distribution and getting things set up from a promotional perspective, so if you go to a store you should see our posters everywhere and there'll be a good presence of Fortis Alberta."

Participating Home Hardware locations in the Foothills includes Okotoks, High River, Nanton, Strathmore, and Vulcan.
