The Town of Okotoks has received a helping hand from Fortis Alberta.

Through the Community Naturalization Program, the Town received a $3,000 grant.

Dawn Smith, sustainability coordinator with the Town, says the funding will go towards helping a storm water system project in 2016.

"The Town applied to the Fortis Alberta Community Naturalization Grant towards our riparian project," she says. "The Funding will to go towards plant material which we'll be putting in early spring of next year."

Smith says she's happy the Town has been recognized for it's efforts to be a sustainable community.

"I think the whole entire riparian project is an example of environmental stewardship and obviously Fortis saw value in that as well so the more contributions we can get from different funds the better," she says.

The first phase of the riparian bio-retention site is expected to be completed in September.
