So far the Foothills School Division has welcomed 35 students from Fort McMurray into their schools. Executive Assistant to the Superintendent Jean Rae says she went to several Okotoks businesses to gather school supplies and help the students feel more at home.

"We put together backpacks and bags and gift bags and we were able to provide 40 welcome packs to these children."

She says after going through the 2013 flood, she wanted to give these kids something special.

"Having gone through the flood in High River I knew how good it was for the kids to receive something to let them know that we care about them and that's what we did here."

Rae says the backpacks included a welcome note and school supplies donated from Foothills School Division staff and from Walmart, Michael's, Sobeys, and Staples in Okotoks. She says the division received an overwhelming response from these businesses.
