A folk musician from the Foothills is getting recognition for his latest EP.

Jake Vance, 20, grew up around the Turner Valley area and has a background in piano, bass, guitar, and mandolin along with vocals and songwriting.

His first EP White Elephant came out in 2015 and he's recently released his second EP Eden which features five songs.

Vance says he's evolved since his first album.

"The production's better, I'm a better singer and song writer, better musician now, so it's just elevated since the first one," he says. "I got to work with a producer in Calgary named Russell Broom and he sort of took me under his wing and showed me how to make a really good EP."

The first single The Poet has been getting attention across the world including Canada, the US, and Europe. The song was selected as a top 10 finalist in Jango's Songwriting Contest and was also a semi-finalist in the Unsigned Only Songwriting Competition.

Vance says he's received more recognition recently.

"I just for nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award, I just got back from Toronto playing at Canada's Walk of Fame Festival, and I was runner-up in their artist entrepreneur program."

Vance will make his way to Toronto for the awards on Dec. 3.

Eden can be found on iTunes, Apple Music, Amazon, and Spotify.
