The Crescent Point Regional Field House was home to the Foothills Made in Canada Marketplace on Saturday.

The market featured members from the Foothills Etsy team who sell their homemade or vintage items online at etsy.com.

Team captain Marissa Johnston says the Foothills team was just one of many at the event.

"Thirty-eight teams hosted markets across the country; that is why it is called made in Canada because it is a massive grassroots initiative."

While Etsy is usually just an online shopping store, Johnston says that having these markets allows them to bring the digital life to reality by doing that allows them to foster relationships that can lead to collaborations.

"We just connected with a glass blower and are going to do a collaboration piece that we came up with, so it helps create community within the artisan community," Johnston says.

Johnston adds the Foothills Etsy team is still relatively new, only having been formed a year ago but it already has been successful.

She says she started the Etsy treasury because she wanted to be able to purchase a knitted hat or scarf without the shipping costing more than the item itself.

Since the team became official, it went from 18 members to about 96.

"We have grown exponentially, and I could not be more proud because I could not be without them, and we truly are a team and community."

The Foothills Etsy team will be holding a couple more markets throughout the year to continue to foster relationships and grow their place in the community.
