Appreciation was shown for nurses in the Foothills this week for Nurses Week.

Andrea Mitchell, executive director of the Sheep River Health Trust, says nurses play a significant role in our health care system.

"Our nurses really are an important part of our healthcare here in the Foothills," she says. "They provide the basic care for our community and they make sure we get the care our community deserves so it's an important time to recognize the passion and dedication they have for healthcare here."

Mitchell says showing appreciation for nurses can be as simple as saying "thank you".

"Every nurse you encounter, whether it's going to your doctor or Okotoks Urgent Care or to Black Diamond Emergency, you could thank a nurse. They're the first line of healthcare. If you're having a bad day they're there to help you, they're there to make sure your experience is the best it can be so just a simple thanks goes a long way for them."

Nurses week took place from May 6- 12.
