Foothills Among Top 50 Canadian Places To Visit

Canadian travel agency Flight Network has come out with an interesting list of 50 small towns that should be visited this year.

Shereen Mohammed with the company says they've done it in the past in the U.S. and thought it might work well here.

"Our team here at Flight Network created this list as a way to encourage local and domestic travel with the Canadian dollar being as low as it is there's a lot of great hidden gems in our country that make for great places for people to spend time this year," she says. "Especially as we're getting into the warmer weather these are all great places for Canadians to spend their time as opposed to going south or going to  overseas."

Foothills is on the list and she says they realize it isn't one specific town.

"We've had a couple of people point that out and we did recognize that however we still felt it was something worth including, we could have zoned in on a particular town, and we might still decide to do that but for right now I think Foothills has, because it still covers a "smallish" area in comparison to some areas there's quite a lot you can do when you're out there I think," Mohammed says.

She says they did have people visit the areas or they did research on the towns and in some cases they connected with tourist boards and committees to see what each community had to offer. And sometimes they were able to talk to people from the area and heard about the passion they had for their community and how great it was.

Other Alberta communities on the list are Beaumont, Sylvan Lake and Camrose.
