Once again High River and Foothills residents stepped up and pitched in helping the Salvation Army fill their shelves for the Food Mountain food drive Wednesday.

Hundreds of pounds of food and hundreds of dollars in cash and gift cards were raised to help feed families in need in High River and the surrounding area.

Salvation Army Lieutenant Kelly Fifield says filling the shelves in the summer is always a challenge.

"This is my third summer being in High River and this is the first food drive that's actually happened in the summer. Because it's a season where people are come and go, people are on vacation. It's not always in the forefront of peoples minds. So, it's definitely nice to hear that somebody's putting on a food drive and we'll be receiving those donations in a time where we don't always have them."

Fifield says they serve a steady client base of about 100 families each month who are having a tough time making ends meet.
