It's time again to once again roll up a sleeve and get flu shots for the upcoming flu season.

Flu shots are available at numerous health facilities and pharmacies throughout the Foothills.

Pharmasave Owner Jason Spicer says if you think you're covered from getting a shot last year, think again.

"The vaccine doesn't last the entire year, it lasts eight to nine months in the body and that's to take us over the winter spell, but it does eventually wear off so it is a good idea to get it done every year," he says.

Spicer says the shots are different every year to protect us from numerous types of influenza, and says the shot this year covers many different strains.

"We've got a California strain, one from Switzerland and then one from Phuket," he says. "FluMist, which is indicated for children between the ages of 2-17, actually has four, so they've actually added one from Bolivia into that one, so it's an interesting mix this year."

When asked if getting the shot was worth it, Spicer says it could be what keeps you from missing work.

"If you can afford to take three to four days out of your life this winter to deal with an illness, then no you don't need a shot this year, not many individuals can afford to take that, so generally there is no reason not to get it."
