A bit of a slower week for the Okotoks Fire Department in this week's edition of the fire report.

Fire Services responded to 19 different calls.

Okotoks Fire Chief Ken Thevenot

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says they responded to structure fire in Cimarron that caused quite a bit of damage.

"We attended to three alarm systems activations, 11 medical assist calls, one car accident, one public service," he says. "We had a couple kids locked in a car, a fire investigation and we had one accidental fire call and it was about $85,000 worth of damage."

With the children locked in a car call, Thevenot says no matter where you are, children should not be left in a vehicle unattended.

"Never leave your kids in a vehicle, take them in with you wherever you need to go because we have had calls where other individuals are walking past and they see kids in the vehicles by themselves crying so we have to attend to their calls."

Thevenot was busy this week representing Okotoks at the National Fire Chief Association meeting in the Maritimes where he came away with some great insight on how to deal with serious issues that comes with the territory of being a part of a fire department.

"We had some great guest speakers talking about post traumatic mental health issues with first responders. We talked about the different programs that are going on across Canada be it volunteer, composite or career services."
