The Okotoks Fire Department say an above average week when it comes to calls in this week's Fire Report.

Fire Services responded 20 different times last week but no fire calls to report.

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says they were busy helping EMS crews.

"In the last week we had three motor vehicle accidents we attended to," he says. "We had two public service calls, we had one incident where we were called out but nothing was found around that scene. We had eleven medical responses we helped out with and we had two alarm system activations."

Thevenot adds that pedestrian safety is cructial when it comes to sidewalks still with the cold weather and potential ice build up and all sidewalks and driveways should be cleared.

"Ensure that the sidewalks along the street are shovelled, a lot of people are out walking so ensure your part of the sidewalks are done and ensure your driveways are clear of snow as well. It sure helps out if we need to attend in and around those areas."

With spring forward daylight savings coming on Sunday, Thevenot says it's a great time to check and switch out the batteries on your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

But if you're not sure if they're in good working order you can always give the fire department a call.

"If you're not sure, just give us a call down at the fire station, we'd be happy to come out to do a home inspection or check your smoke detectors."
