The M.D. of Foothills say they may start evacuating people away from areas affected by the wild fire in the far northwest corner of the M.D. any minute Monday, May 28.

Reeve Larry Spilak says they've now issued a State of Emergency for the M.D.

"If the fire does get west of Highway 762, we will need to evacuate the area north from Square Butte to Highway 22. It's getting to the point where people's lives will be in danger. So some of the area will be a forced evacuation."

He says there's no evacuation order in place yet, but he wants residents to pack a bag and be ready to go in a moments notice.

He says any evacuation order will impact about 100 residents.

He says a reception centre is being set up in Millarville for evacuated residents to go to, but he couldn't say exactly where in Millarville at this time.

Spilak says the M.D. of Foothills Fire Department is on hand, along with fire crews from Redwood Meadows and the Province.

He says in total seven helicopters are being used to fight the approximately 100 hectare blaze, that's still out of control in the southern end of McLean Creek.
