It was a controlled week for the Okotoks Fire Department in this week's edition of the Fire Report.

Fire Fighters were fortunate to not have any out of hand blazes occur last week in their 24 responses.

Okotoks Fire Chief Ken Thevenot

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says they were above average when it comes to calls.

"We had eight medical responses, six alarm system investigations, we attended to five odour type investigations, one controlled burn, a gas leak and we three motor vehicle accidents.," he says.

The fire department would to once again remind the public to be extra careful when dealing with carbon monoxide and have a fully functioning monitor because it's something that you just can't address with yourself says Thevenot.

"Carbon monoxide is one of those things where you don't see it or smell it so you got to rely on your detector."

Also as we see temperatures start to drop in the lower minuses ice is starting to form on river banks and on storm ponds.

Thevenot says the river and storm ponds are a definite safety hazard as the ice isn't as strong as you might think.

"Especially in the shallow parts in our river there's frozen spots it could also lead to the storm ponds. We could have some areas where the storm ponds are frozen so just a reminder to folks to stay off them, we see some people on them from time to time."
