The Okotoks Fire Department responded to three different fires last week.

Ken Thevenot, Okotoks Fire Chief, says one of those fires was the one on Rowland Lane in the Air Ranch community.

"We investigated that fire the following the day and we found the origin but the cause is still undetermined at this time," he says. "The fire started in the front deck area, consumed the porch area, then made its way up through the roof into that attic space so it created a lot of fire damage but a lot of fire damage as well."

According to Thevenot a small fire was started inside Walmart that same night where a couple of young people were involved who were apprehended by RCMP. The fire was quickly extinguished by the store's staff.

He adds damage costs for the home, including contents, may be upwards of $500,000.

Thevenot says the third was the arson on McRae Street.

"It appears that it started on the stairs, it shows signs of a flammable liquid possibly being used there, like a pour pattern. It ignited quick and we were able to extinguish it fairly quickly as well."

In total this past week the department responded to 21 calls which, aside from the fires, includes two motor vehicle collisions, 11 medical responses, one public hazard, one odour investigation, two unclassified incidents, and one alarm system activation.
