The Okotoks Fire Department responded to 32 calls this past week.

Of those responses, one was a fire pit complaint and four were smaller grass fires.

Ken Thevenot, Okotoks Fire Chief, says with hot and dry weather here there's a few safety pieces residents should keep in mind.

"Use good common sense and good safety practices that we put in place for individuals, you know, discarding smoking materials is always a big one for us, and anytime we're operating machinery around dry areas can be another problematic situation we can run into as well."

Thevenot says the province has a new fire ban app to help residents wherever their travels take them.

"Ask when you do go camping at the offices, just to make sure that you do things correctly and in accordance with their certain specifications in their campground and then if you're having a backyard fire pit just check to see if there are any bans."

The Province released a new fire ban app where residents can easily learn about fire bans all over the province from their mobile devices.
