While temperatures have increased in the Foothills, the number of responses for the Okotoks Fire Department has not.

This past week they responded to 17 calls and only one was a grass fire.

Ken Thevenot, Okotoks Fire Chief, says residents have been doing a great job at being compliant.

"Our citizens are doing a pretty good job, you can tell by our numbers that we haven't had a lot so far so this weekly report helps and having our communications team putting it on our website, with all that information we can just tweak a few people."

Thevenot says there's a few things residents can do that play a huge role in preventing fires.

"Keep the grass trimmed to a lower level, if you're walking by and discarding smoking material, it seems to be one of the major causes for us for grass fires, discard it in a proper manner, and if you see anyone around where a grass fire started report it to us or the RCMP and we can follow up with that."

He adds it's important dry wood is used with fire pits.
