With a fire ban placed through the Town of Okotoks, it was quiet last week for the Okotoks Fire Department.

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says citizens were compliant with the ban and that lead to a low number of calls for his crews.

"We're down from our normal numbers, we only had 10 responses in the past week," he says. "Covering those off we had two alarm system activations, one gas leak, three medical responses, we had a carbon monoxide call we attended to along with three motor vehicle accidents as well."

In comparison to this time last year Thevenot says calls are down significantly.

"To date we're at 340 responses and last year at this time we were at 411. That is quite the drop we're down 71 calls from 2015."

With rain in the forecast for the upcoming May Long Weekend, Thevenot says despite the chances for an increase in moisture content everyone should update themselves before heading out with the latest fire ban updates online.

"You'll see the areas your visiting whether there's bans on them or not. The Alberta fire ban is still in effect along with the M.D. of Foothills so check in the areas before leaving and you can update yourself on the fire bans on the Alberta Fire Bans website."
