The Town of Okotoks has issued a fire ban.

The ban has been put in place due to lack of moisture and continued hot and dry conditions and will remain until conditions significantly improve.

This means no campfires, other open fires or burning barrels are allowed in campgrounds or backyards, including charcoal briquettes and outdoor torches of any kind.

Gas or propane stoves and barbeques and portable propane fire pits are allowed.

All fire permits are suspended and no new permits will be issued at this time.

The Okotoks Fire Department is urging residents to use ashtrays and make sure all smoking materials are properly extinguished.

Caution should also be used when using any power tools or ATV's that can cause sparks.

The fire ban includes all newly annexed properties.
