The long list of fire bans in southern Alberta has been extended.

Effective at 10 a.m. today, July 27, the ban is in effect in the regions of the Forest Protection Area south of the Red Deer River along the mountains and foothills to the northern boundary of Waterton Lakes National Park.

No fires are permitted during the ban, including campfires, gas or propane stoves/barbecues and portable propane fire pits are still permitted.

All fire permits have been suspended and no new permits will be issued.

Both the M.D. of Foothills and Vulcan County have complete fire bans, while Okotoks remains under a fire advisory.

Individuals found to be violating the fire ban could be issued a $287 ticket, so if you're heading out this weekend, it's important to check the list of fire bans in the area.
