The Province is warning people living along the Little Bow River east of Carmangay to not use any water pulled from the river.

A fertilizer spill on Wednesday got into the river system and is being cleaned up now.

Kelly Malmberg with the County of Vulcan says he's not sure how much of the liquid fertilizer got into the river.

"We don't have many landowners with direct access on the river from where I'm thinking it was at before it hits the Little Bow Lake. According to the Province their Emergency Response Team is in there and they're cleaning it up."

The advisory from the Province says not to use the water for drinking, bathing or cooking.

They say boiling it won't help either.

The warning covers a large area from just east of High River and includes, McGregor Lake, Travers Reservoir and Little Bow Lake.
