The Okotoks Food Bank received another healthy boost in stocking their shelves for not only the Christmas season but also their day to day operations.

Through the 'Feeding The Foothills' campaign, residents helped fill a trailer full of food donations courtesy of GM Mechanical and by filling it up received an additional $5000 cheque from them.

GM Mechanical Co-Owner & General Manager Joe McCormick says it's money well spent.

"It was something that we felt we needed to do," he says. "There's a lot of people out there that are in bad situations whether they lost their jobs or are working but near as much as they used to be working for. They've got mortgage payments, kids in school, sports what have you. So we figured this is just one way we can help out."

McCormick says there wasn't a lot of room left in the trailer even close the door properly.

"I know I was helping load the trailer and there was quite a few trips back and fourth from the grocery store to the trailer. The people of Okotoks did a very good job getting as much food in there as they possibly could.

During the dim economic forecast in the province, more than ever local businesses need to stand together help communities get through some tough sledding says McCormick.

"Sometimes for companies times are tough here but you've got to support the people that support you so for everyone just help out as much as you can. If you're in the majority which are a little bit more fortunate here then you got to help out because sooner or later you could be in that situation yourself."

Feeding The Foothills was set-up for the past six weeks at Sobeys, Safeway & No Frills taking all of your generous donations.
