Family and Community Support Services has been supporting volunteers in Alberta for 50 years, and they're getting ready to celebrate National Volunteer Week in High River.

FCSS Community Support Worker Caitland Asmundson says the festivities will start on Monday, April 11.

"On Monday the Mayor will proclaim that it is Volunteer Week by raising a flag at Town Hall. Then on Tuesday there's a senior's tea at the High River Senior's Friendship Centre from 1-3 pm. Then on Wednesday we're having our Community Cafe with Our High River."

She says the focus of the Community Cafe is volunteers and it will be held at Colossi's on 4th Ave.

"All citizens are welcome to come out there and get some free coffee, have some snacks, and just enjoy each other's company. Our focus that day will be volunteers, but everyone's welcome. Especially if you're someone that's looking to volunteer, we can certainly help you get connected to a volunteer organization."

Asmundson says Volunteer Week is one way FCSS shows appreciation for the amazing work done in our community.

"FCSS celebrates Volunteer Week every year. It's a way for us to recognize people in our community who do what they can to give back. Lots of people go above and beyond for High River."

FCSS will also be looking for volunteers to help revitalize the Culture Centre on April 15-16.
