The Okotoks Fire Department for the 2nd straight week had their hands full of calls and responses in this week's fire report.

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says it was the busiest week they've had of calls in 2016.

"We had a total of 27 responses, we had five alarm system activations, 14 medical responses, two public service calls, we attended to three motor vehicle accidents, we had one mutual aid call which involved a roll-over of a semi and we had one ruptured gas line call," he says.

One other call the department received was a concerned citizen seeing a bike near a bank on the Sheep River and Thevenot says their ice rescue team was dispatched but luckily there was no sign of anyone entering the lake just an abandoned bike.

He says when it comes to ice or river rescues the department doesn't take any chances.

"We did see tracks out on that area and close to it. We got to remind people to stay off the ice or anywhere near that river at this time because any ice that is remainining most of it looks like it's gone but if there is patches where there is ice  please stay away from that because there could be a void underneath it."

Going into the week Thevenot says the number of calls is still under from last year's calls at this time of the year.

"Calls to date we're at 130 but we're still behind from last year we were at 140, medical responses are roughly 46% our calls that we attend to on a regular basis but we are helping out our citizens in our community to make sure they are taken care of."
