The Town of Okotoks is inviting residents to join them in celebrating Environment Week.

Typically the week, May 31- June 5, is filled with hands on events celebrating nature and sustainability but this year it's shifting to a virtual format due to restrictions from COVID-19.

Jinny Toffelmire, Environment and Sustainability Specialist for the Town, says they're keeping one of their most popular events, the repair cafe, but it's operating a bit differently.

"We're going to be intaking all of those items on Sunday afternoon and wiping them down and quarantining them for a few days then bringing them to our fixers," she explains. "Our fixers are going to be available to each person who's brought something in via Zoom or via phone call on Saturday (June 6) for a virtual Repair Cafe. We're hoping that will be a good success and people can still get their stuff fixed."

Applications for items to be submitted to the Repair Cafe were available on the Town's website.

Toffelmire says they've changed their usual Environment Week Photo Contest to the Green Action Contest.

"We want to find out what are people doing in their lives that are environmentally friendly actions, and you can nominate someone. Maybe you have a neighbour or a friend who you think is just amazing for what they do, maybe they bike to the grocery store instead of driving there, but we want to hear about it and we want to promote these people."
