A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the Foothills.

Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch Friday morning saying conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that could bring damaging wind gusts and hail, and heavy rain.

Thunderstorms are expected to develop along the Foothills during the afternoon.

Enviroment Canada would like residents to remember severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes.

Their advice on staying safe is to take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches, aknowledging that lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.

Adding a good way to remember to say as safe as possible is to think "when thunder roars, go indoors!"

M.D. of Foothills near Blackie

Wheatland Co. near Strathmore
