Are you looking for a way to bring down your energy bills? Many people don't know where to start, specially when it comes to bigger renovations or projects.

The Town of Okotoks is willing to help your household become more energy efficient, by rebating a professional energy audit on your home.

Dawn Smith is the Environment and Sustainability Coordinator for the town, she says getting an audit done, will help you find out where you can be saving money.

"It can help reduce your energy bills, but more importantly we want to help educate people on things like windows and doors, before they go out and spend a lot of money replacing those bigger items." Smith says the energy audit should be a precursor to any big reno. "Say you're doing the siding on your house this year, you can get an energy audit done first, to see if there's a way to put insulation on your house before or during getting your siding done."

Many things that will be discovered during a professional energy audit, can eventually be linked to product rebates coming from the NDP government.

"The whole intent of this program is to align with the provincial rebate program." Says Smith. "Later this year, I'm not sure when as the province has announced this yet, but there will be a program on energy upgrades in your home - so they'll be doing rebates on things like windows etc."

Energy Efficiency Audits can be rebated by as much as 50%, up to $200 per household.
