Alberta's Culture Days starts this weekend, and there's plenty to do in Okotoks to celebrate.

The province wide event is now in its tenth year, and begins with a Best of Busker's Fest concert at the RPAC tonight.

Allan Boss, Culture and Heritage Manager with the Town of Okotoks says the Provincial event has now spread across the country.

"It's an initiative that was begun by the Alberta government a number of years back to celebrate culture, arts and heritage within communities around the province," he says. "It was so successful in its early years that it's been picked up by every province across Canada. So the last weekend of September is always Culture days in provinces all over Canada."

Over the course of Friday Sept. 29, and Saturday Sept. 30, ten events will take place embracing local culture, Jaime-Brett Sine, Education Program Specialist with Culture and Heritage says one of them is a scavenger hunt at the Okotoks Museum and Archives.

"It's a self guided scavenger hunt, so people and families can come in and grab a scavenger hunt from the front desk. The scavenger hunt encourages them to engage with the exhibitions in a much more accessible and fun way especially for younger children. The hunt itself involves parents helping kids read text, visual clues, and visual seek and find activities, we will also have a craft up in the attic for that as well."

Sine adds another event which will give an interactive, inside look at Okotoks culture is the Art Walk, which start at the Okotoks Art Gallery at 2 p.m.

"What we're going to do is explore a little bit of the art in town focusing on a lot of the public art that people see daily, but don't necessarily know a lot about. So we'll begin with the exhibitions at the OAG, touch on the sculptures outside. We'll make our way into town touching on stops like the River Nymph, and murals like the one just beside Monkey Mountain. We're also going to stop into a few local galleries, so we'll be finishing off the tour at Lineham House."
