Chaos ensues at an Edmonton Eskimos game last night, and police are labeling it as a 'terrorism investigation.'

Last night around 8:30 a 30 year old Edmonton man drove his white Chevy Malibu through barricade at the football game, targeting a police officer who was standing outside of his vehicle.

The officer was hit and thrown into the air, before the suspect rammed into the police cruiser at high speed.

The suspect then got out of his vehicle and attacked the officer, stabbing him with a knife several times before fleeing the scene on foot.

Thankfully, the officer was transported to hospital and is not in critical condition.

Edmonton Police put up traffic stops in search for the Officers attacker, and found him at a check stop on Wayne Gretzky Drive and 112 Avenue.

He was driving a U-Haul truck when he was found, and continued his assault - targeting pedestrians in the cities core.

Four pedestrians were struck by the U-Haul during the chase, they were quickly taken to hospital, but there has been no word on their status.

Eventually, the suspect flipped the vehicle he was driving and was promptly arrested and taken into police custody.

It is believed that the suspect was acting alone, but RCMP and the Edmonton Police Service are looking at all of the possibilities, and taking the investigation seriously.

Premier Notley has spoken on the subject saying she and the province is shocked and angry.

"The horrific events last night in downtown Edmonton have left us shocked and angry. It's left us shocked at the indiscriminate cruelty and angry that someone might target their hatred at places where we gather with our families and friends." She also goes on to thank First Responders after the haunting reminder of the danger they face. "Our first responders are incredible people. Thank you to each and every one of our police officers, paramedics and firefighters who put their lives on the line to keep us safe. Thank you, also, to the women and men who dropped everything to help their fellow Albertans. Your bravery in moments of fear and your compassion in moments of chaos are what’s very best about us."

Even Prime Minister Trudeau issued a statement in regards to the shocking attack saying he is angered and standing with the people in Edmonton.

"The Government of Canada and Canadians stand with the people of Edmonton after the terrorist attack on Saturday that sent an Edmonton Police Service officer to hospital and injured a number of innocent people who were out to cheer on their football team and to enjoy an evening in their city. I am deeply concerned and outraged by this tragedy."

UCP Leadership Candidates, Brian Jean and Jason Kenney have both spoken out and offered their condolences on the attack through their twitter and other social media pages.

A press release is being held at 3 PM this afternoon and will contain more information.
