Plans for a drive in theatre in High River are starting to gain momentum as organizers look to launch the project this summer.

Jeff Langford says they've split from the River City Car Club to form their own group and will call the drive in the "High River Sunset Drive In."

He says they've come up with a plan to overcome their biggest hurdle of a permanent screen.

"We're actually going to use stacked "Seacan's" that would be cladded with steel on the side with a big screen. Because we didn't want to do something hokey. We wanted to do something that's permanent that we could use in all weather. So, that's what the big delay was for us last year getting it off and going."

He says they're hoping to have the drive in ready to go by late June or early July.

He says they'll need a bunch of volunteers to help out and just like their original plan, half the money from each show will go to charity.

"We've got actually quite a few different charities in town and outside of town, major ones, that want to get in on the movie night. We need somebody to organize the charity's and when they do they're actually charity nights right? So, that's why we need the volunteers to make this work and put it all together."

Langford says they still have details to work out, but once they get going they'll probably be open every weekend.

"Ideally, it'd be a Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Keeping in mind in the Summer, I remember when I would go to the drive in, it was nice to go even on a Wednesday night or something like that when kids were out of school right? So, we might even play around with that the prime summer nights, being open more."
