A familiar face is back in Okotoks and is looking to keep the community spirit burning at a high level.

Mark Doherty left his post back in the spring as the Town's Community Events Coordinator but decided to return to his post a few weeks ago.

He says after moving back out east to Ontario there was just something not right about the quality of life being away from Okotoks.

"I didn't feel that back in my hometown of Peterborough, I missed it," he says. "I missed the people, I missed the businesses in the downtown core and in a relatively short time I got to meet some many people and I just missed that quality between work and play and I sure missed the mountains."

Now that Doherty is back in town he has upped the ante when it comes to summer events, numerous ones he started and says he's looking to build off of that momentum going into the new year.

"You'll see for 2017 I'm thinking I'm going to introduce a couple new events. Just a few ideas in my head it takes some money to pull that off so I have to get some resourcefulness in me and go out and pound the streets but what a great community to do that in, there's so much support."

Not long after taking his old job back Doherty says he's been extremely busy getting ready for big events coming up and just around the corner in Okotoks.

"I've got Chili-Fest coming up, we still have the rodeo, we have the Grand Slam of Curling that's coming up in October I'm very excited about that I've put in a lot of work into that project so I'll be working with many volunteers and so that's a cool project I'm looking forward to completing and then there's always Light Up Okotoks to get ready for."
