The Town of Okotoks is providing families with a way to unwind and unplug from technology and reconnect with each other this Family Day.

Mark Doherty, community events coordinator, says there's something to keep everyone entertained with their Family Day Unplugged event.

"Take advantage of the free activities at the Rec Centre, there's free swimming, free skating, some really cool arts and crafts for the kids, and the gym's open and there'll be two bouncy castles in there so just get out and get physical and that's the theme of that."

According to Doherty, elementary aged children use entertainment technology about 7.5 hours per day and 75% have a device in their bedroom.

He says the day is free but they are accepting donations to help keep families in need active.

"We certainly appreciate any donations to support our fee assistance program for low income families. We live in such a great community, they're very generous," says Doherty. "If people do come up and support that program it gives an opportunity for those low income families to take advantage of some of the physical activities and classes we have and memberships at the gym, so it really helps."

The festivities take place from 9:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.
