The Okotoks Dewdney Players cleaned up last weekend at the Foothills One Act Play Festival, in association with the Alberta Drama Festival Association.

Okotoks, Airdrie, Canmore, and High River participated, and brought forward 11 plays; 5 from Dewdney Players, one from the High River Windmill Players, two from the Airdrie Nose Creek Players, and 3 from the Pine Tree Players from Canmore.

Ed Sands, President of Dewdney Players, says the Okotoks crew had lots of success.

"A play called Coffee with Gabe by Reg Gothard won Outstanding Original Play by an Alberta Playwright. We also had honourable mentions for Best Director, Haley Gray for a play called Smitten, and one for Best Actor, Shamir Ladhani for Coffee with Gabe as well as Outstanding Production for the play A Little Box of Oblivion."

The overall winner of the weekend was the High River Windmill Players, they'll go on to provincials at a One Act Festival in Medicine Hat at the end of the month, Sands says the crew definitely deserves it.

"It was an absolutely hilarious production of a genre called course acting in which everything that can go wrong does go wrong, and the actors react to the things going wrong very badly, it was absolutely extremely well done. They play also won Outstanding Actor for Jim Goodwin and Outstanding Director for Erin Suitor so we're all very proud of them."

Sands shares the festival will continue into this weekend, and he's hoping the momentum and audience response will continue.

"This weekend is a reprise of the first weekend where all five our plays will be seen each evening, the reason we put on the second festival is because we get constructive comments from a professional adjudicator, and what we try to do is incorporate some of those suggestions into the play on the final weekend, so this is sort of one acts 1.1 so its a little bit of an enhanced version."

He adds most of the plays are comedic, and invites all residents to come out this weekend and have a laugh.
