Development in the town of Strathmore is continuing despite the economic slowdown.

Mayor Mike Ell says they're not just a one trick pony.

"We're still seeing some good growth in our community even with the slower economy in the province, " he says. "Our economy has a really strong agricultural base so I think that's helped us tremendously."

He says there have been a lot of new businesses moving into the downtown.

Ell says no one could have expected the double digit growth that was happening five or six years ago to continue.

"When it does slow down it does give you an opportunity to look at how you do things, see if you can do them a little bit better and to see where you have to make those improvements,  it's a good thing," Ell says.
