Family and Community Support Services set aside money in their budget each year for not-for-profit organizations and programs for preventative social services.
Debbie Posey, FCSS manager, says there's a funding formula used where the province pays 80% of the funding and the municipality pays the other 20%.
"Out of my budget every year so much is allocated to external agencies," says Posey.
Posey says that they have $180,000 for grants.
"That's because we got an increase from the province."
The increase from the province has made it possible for an Innovation Fund to be made. Currently there's $70,000 in the fund this that can be applied for as well.
"We're looking for programs that meet the criteria of preventative social programs but maybe it's a new program that a group has always wanted to start that they're applying for."
The deadline for community grant applications is Feb. 5.
