Those using Crystal Ridge Drive will no longer have the worry of slipping along the pathways or roadways during the winter as the Town of Okotoks will soon divert the groundwater that sits near the path.

Town Council gave the go-ahead on work to be done on the Crystal Ridge Drive Ground Seepage Control project.

Mayor Bill Robertson says it's just another project to keep residents and motorists from falling victim to slippery roads.

"Of course in the winter, coming out across the roadway, almost like an artesian well having that water come out and then it ices up the road and creates quite a hazard on Crystal Ridge Drive," he says. "Because of that we're trying to do some controls to mitigate having the water running out across the surface."

Robertson says the seepage control project will help the road on Crystal Ridge Drive's longevity.

"It's extra wear and tear on the road, it destabilizes the surfaces so we're our best to mitigate those various things that might deteriorate the quality the road and might create an icy situation in cold weather."

The project is set to begin within the next few weeks at a cost of $60,000.
