An Okotoks family is doing their part to contribute to cystic fibrosis research.

Amanda Gibson's 15 month old son Cullen was diagnosed with the disease at just 12 days old. He takes about 20 pills a day and receives chest therapy twice a day.

Despite a struggle during the first couple months of his life, Cullen is a happy baby in good spirits and is doing well.

With May being National Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month, Gibson and a group of friends started a Facebook auction group where members can bid on items and all proceeds will go towards Cystic Fibrosis Canada.

She says research for the disease has come a long way.

"Twenty years ago kids weren't living with cystic fibrosis past the age of five, it was very rare, 10 years ago kids weren't living past their teenage years, and now 60% of every person with CF is making it into adolescence so the research, technology, and funding has changed through the time and we're hoping through Cullen's lifetime we'll see a cure."

Gibson adds the community support has been amazing.

"We've had so many companies and different vendors reach out to us here in Okotoks and that's so warm, heartfelt, and appreciated. Cullen has an amazing team at the Children's Hospital that has been our hugest support. Of course we have amazing family support and friends. It seems like everywhere we tell our story somebody is willing to help or lend a hand."
