Awareness is being raised in Okotoks for World Alzheimer's Awareness Month.

The Heartland Retirement Residence is inviting the community to its Alzheimer Coffee Break event to enjoy cinnamon buns and coffee.

According to the Alzheimer's Society, 72 percent of Canadians diagnosed with Alzheimer's are women.

Okotoks mayor Bill Robertson and executive director of Heartland Catherine Berlingieri will be taking part in a Jail and Bail fundraiser.

A viewing of "Stepping into Their World" will also take place as well as a 50/50 heads or tails toonie toss.

All proceeds from the event will go to the Alzheimer's Society.

To join in on the festivities, visit Heartland Retirement Residence on Thursday from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
