Early Monday morning, EMS responded to a fatal collision in the Foothills.

Just after 7 a.m., paramedics arrived on scene along Highway 22, north of Plummers Road.

Adam Loria, public education officer with EMS, says when paramedics arrived they discovered two vehicles and two people were involved.

"We were presented with two individuals that were injured, one fatally who was an adult female," he says. "After paramedics assessed her they determined her deceased on scene."

Loria says the other person was airlifted to hospital.

"An adult male was assessed, treated and stabilized by paramedics prior to being airlifted by STARS Air Ambulance to the Foothills Medical Centre. He did sustain serious injuries, but luckily it's considered non-life threatening at this point."

There's no word yet on the cause of the crash.

UPDATE: RCMP say cold weather and extremely icy conditions led to a fatal collision between Priddis and Millarville this morning. Officers say a 29 year old woman was killed in the crash when she was headed northbound and her vehicle crossed the centre line and crashed into a southbound vehicle being driven by a 58 year old man. Police are urging motorists to drive to the conditions and say alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the collision.
